Practicalities
Is there enough parking?
Yes, there’s plenty of parking at Undercastle Cottage.
What connection can I get?
Even though the cottage is in a rural location, we find that most networks enjoy good 4G reception and Wi-Fi connection through a dongle for the Internet, video calls and emails, plus iPlayer, Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc.
What entertainment do you have?
The lounge has a TV (with Netflix and Prime), a built in DVD Player with a library of DVDs, a radio, and family games like dominoes, Scrabble, and jigsaws. There’s also a TV in the Fishing Lodge.
Is there a fireplace?
We have a handsome cast iron log burner in the lounge which we’ll lay ready for your arrival, so all you need to do is light the match! We leave plenty of logs, kindling, fire starters and matches.
What equipment is in the kitchen?
We’ve taken care of the practical side of things with an electric Rangemaster Cooktop and Grill, microwave, dishwasher and a coffee machine. You’ll find a large Neff fridge with wine storage and a freezer in the utility room, as well as a washing machine/tumble dryer.
We can even have the fridge filled with a grazing platter, a meal to pop in the oven for supper, and chilled wine or beer. So, when you arrive, all you have to do is pop open a bottle and sit down to eat. The dining table comfortably seats 6 guests. See more about pre-ordering food and drink for your arrival.
Do you provide a Welcome Hamper?
Yes, we do, it’s a generous collection of treats and provisions from local producers and artisan makers that include freshly baked bread, home-made butter, free-range eggs, cheese, biscuits, cakes, chocolate and freshly squeezed apple juice, local cider and beer.
What cleaning supplies are at the cottage?
It’s a total pain to have to bring things with you, so we leave the cottage with a vast supply of washing up liquid, cloths, scourers, dishwasher tablets, and loo roll.
Are linen and towels provided?
Luxury bedding and fluffy white towels for bathing will be at the cottage, but please bring your own beach or river towels.
Are dog allowed?
We love dogs and bring ours to the cottage; all we ask is that you tell your pups the house rules, which we will send with your booking confirmation. You can bring up to 3 dogs.
What do you have for children at Undercastle Cottage?
Children absolutely love staying at the cottage. They soon put their screens down to watch the wildlife, run around the garden, and play on the tree swing – it's all very Swallows and Amazons down here! Just keep an eye on them outside, as there are ponds and the river. To make travelling with little ones easier, we can provide a high chair, stair gate, and a travel cot (please bring your own cot sheets and bedding). Just let us know when you book, and we’ll have everything ready for your arrival.
Is the garden safe?
We have three fences around the property to keep the ponies and donkeys out, so it’s not completely secure, and it’s unfenced along the riverbank. Bearing this in mind, ensure an adult accompanies your children at all times.
The Hampshire Avon River
We have a rowing boat for your use from 1st March to 30th October. You’ll find more information about the boat at the cottage. People do swim in the river, but be aware that it can be cold and deep. Most importantly, never go into the river when it is fast-flowing or if the weather is bad. Even in the boat, the river can be extremely dangerous. So, for your own safety, there are times when the boat may not be available - e.g. flooding or a very fast current.
Keeping you warm and toasty!
When it's cold and frosty outside, you’ll love the underfloor heating throughout the downstairs. The upstairs rooms in the cottage and the Fishing Lodge have radiators, and both bathrooms have heated towel rails.
Are there guest bikes at the cottage?
There are two bicycles at the cottage for you to use.
When are arrival and departure times?
We have a team of housekeepers, gardeners, and maintenance staff to prepare the cottage for you. It’ll be ready for you at 4pm on the day of your arrival. Please leave the cottage vacant prior to 10am on the day of your departure so we can get the cottage ready for our next guests.
